JUST SAY NO TO GUN CONTROL.


Top Democratic lawmakers are becoming convinced thatTexas Rep. Lamar Smith, chairman of the House Judiciary Committee, is not likely to allow any kind of gun control legislation to emerge from his panel. Speaking at the National Press Club, Rep. John Conyers, D-Mich., the committee’s top Democrat, said it will be “very difficult” for gun-control backers to achieve any success this year.
Conyers told the NPC newsmaker event that “negotiations are still going on” with Smith about scheduling hearings on gun control during this year. Smith rejected out of hand a request by Judiciary Democrats to convene public hearings after the January assassination attempt againstRep. Gabrielle Giffords, D-Ariz. More on CQ.com>>>
