John James responds to swastika in Senate ad: 'We should have caught this error and we didn't'

(WXYZ) - Michigan's Republican candidate for U.S. Senate, John James, addressed supporters Monday regarding the appearance of a Nazi swastika in his televised Senate campaign ad.
"I was taught by excellent leaders, the best of which being my mom and dad, to do the right thing – even when it's hard," James is heard saying in Facebook live video posted Monday on the candidate's official page.
"I need to fess up and admit this was a terrible error on our part," he goes on to say. "We should have caught this error and we didn't – no excuse."
James and his campaign came under fire Monday when footage on a Senate campaign ad showed a school hallway with the swastika pinned to a school bulletin board. The ad, which has since been pulled from Youtube, shows stock footage of a school hallway. It can be viewed here on ShutterStock.com.
James' Campaign Manager, Tori Sachs, responded in a statement Monday evening saying,
"After becoming aware of the image, John James showed his honor and integrity by holding a public press conference live [links.johnjamesforsenate.com] in his campaign office to take responsibility for the error, saying it was something he and his team should have caught before airing. This campaign doesn't need to be lectured by a 43-year career politician on the history of evil. John James is the son of slaves and his family has overcome racism. After John James raised twice as much as Stabenow in the last quarter, cut her lead in half to single digits and defeated her in two debates, Stabenow finally realizes she is in for the political fight of her life."

U.S. DEMOCRATIC PARTY FILES LAWSUIT AGAINST RUSSIA, TRUMP CAMPAIGN, WIKILEAKS

Trump and Putin G20 2017The Democratic Party sued Russia, President Donald Trump's campaign and WikiLeaks on Friday, charging that they conspired to disrupt the 2016 US presidential election, a court filing showed.

The party alleges in the federal lawsuit in Manhattan that top Trump campaign officials conspired with the Russian government and its military spy agency to hurt Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton and tilt the election to Trump by hacking Democratic Party computers.

The lawsuit also names Donald Trump Jr., Trump associate Roger Stone and Trump's son-in-law, Jared Kushner, as defendants.

The lawsuit alleges that Trump's campaign "gleefully welcomed Russia's help" in the 2016 election.

The White House did not immediately respond to requests for comment. Trump has repeatedly denied his campaign colluded with Russia. Russia has denied meddling in the election.

EXCLUSIVE: John Podesta May Have Been Target Of Russian ‘Influence Campaign’

John Podesta, national chairman of former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton’s 2016 presidential campaign, may have opened himself up to a Russian “influence campaign” designed to temper his views of the Kremlin, The Daily Caller News Foundation (TheDCNF) Investigative Group has learned.
Influence campaigns are conducted by many governments — including the United States — with the aim of influencing decision makers in other countries to realign their geopolitical worldviews more closely to the influencing country.
Some national security experts interviewed by TheDCNF wonder if Podesta may still be a target of Russian influence. They trace the campaign back to his company board membership, in which one-third of the board were top Russian businessmen with direct ties to the Kremlin.

Philly ex-congressman Fattah’s sentence: A decade in prison, $614K restitution

Congressman Chaka Fattah

A federal judge sentenced former U.S. Congressman Chaka Fattah to spend a decade in prison and pay $614,000 in restitution to victims of corruption charges on which the longtime legislator was convicted this summer.
For 22 years, Fattah represented Pennsylvania’s second congressional district and has long been one of the top politicians in the city of Philadelphia. In open court today, moments before handing down his sentence, U.S. District Judge Harvey Bartle III called Fattah’s crimes “astonishing” and said “political corruption in high places is a grave matter.
“Those in high places,” Bartle said, “will certainly know what happened in this courtroom today.”

Despite facing ethics questions, these Texas lawmakers easily won re-election

State Sen. Carlos Uresti, D-San Antonio, and state Reps. Dawnna Dukes, D-Austin, and Ron Reynolds, D-Missouri City.

One faces criminal convictions for ambulance-chasing and the possibility of a year in jail. Another announced her resignation from her seat after being investigated by state auditors and the Texas Rangers. A third failed to fully disclose his business interests in a company that’s been the subject of an FBI investigation.
Yet all three state lawmakers won their re-election bids — handily — earlier this month. Voters overwhelmingly chose to send state Reps. Ron Reynolds of Missouri City and Dawnna Dukes of Austin and state Sen. Carlos Uresti of San Antonio, all Democrats, back to the Capitol, a sign of voters’ capacity for exoneration or apathy — or both.

Trump Campaign App's Data Grab Could Expose Everyone in Your Contact List, Experts Say

PHOTO: A smartphone with the Trump campaign app "America First," open is seen here, AUg. 25, 2016.
Donald Trump’s campaign app may be putting “America First,” but experts say it's not necessarily prioritizing users’ privacy.
The Trump campaign’s smartphone offering seeks to collect and store the contents of users’ address books –– potentially vacuuming up large quantities of personal data about individuals who have never used the application and who may be unaware that it’s in the hands of the campaign.
The app, titled "America First," was quietly launched on Apple’s App Store and the Google Play store as a free download last week.
In a series of interviews with ABC News, several electronic privacy experts expressed concerns about the scope of the Trump campaign app’s data collection techniques, even though all of the methods appeared legal. The experts warned that users may be unwittingly handing over personal data about themselves and their contacts –– potentially exposing all involved to undesired campaign communications, or, at worst, a host of abuses in the event of a malicious data breach.

Staffers quit new Sanders group after campaign head joined

At least five people have left Sen. Bernie Sanders’s (I-Vt.) new political group after Sanders brought in his campaign manager to lead it, Politico reported Tuesday.
Weaver, who ran Sanders's presidential campaign that ended last month, was made president of the group Our Revolution, causing the exodus before the group officially launches.
Digital director Kenneth Pennington and four other team members departed over Weaver’s addition, Politico said.
“A majority of the staff quit as a result of Jeff joining,” one person told the news outlet, adding they had joined the group with a promise from Sanders that Weaver would not be involved.
“Over the last few days, almost the entire staff resigned from the organization because they would not work for Jeff Weaver or help to enact Jeff’s vision for the organization in any way,” one of the former staffers added Monday.

House Republicans Break The Law By Leaking Classified Clinton FBI Interview Info

(facepalm)
Everyone knew that House Republicans were going to leak the classified information. The FBI was so sure that House Republicans were going to leak the information that they sent a warning along with the notes from Clinton’s interview that the information was classified.
The whole point behind the Republican desire to get the material was to try to drum up a new scandal that will take the focus off of Donald Trump and his imploding presidential campaign. House Republicans have been using the edited leak strategy to put out bits of misleading and out of context information since they took back the House majority.

Hillary Clinton's Presidential Campaign also Hacked in Attack on Democratic Party

Hillary-Clinton-Presidential-Campaign-hacked

There's a lot more to come from the DNC Hack.

The Associated Press confirmed yesterday that the computer systems used by Hillary Clinton's presidential campaign were hacked as part of the recent Democratic National Convention (DNC) hack.

Last week's email dump containing almost 20,000 emails from top DNC officials was just the beginning, which led DNC Chairwoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz to resign as the group’s leader, as WikiLeaks announced that it was part one of its new Hillary Leaks series.

BREAKING: Hillary Clinton Brings Disgraced DNC Chair Onto Her Campaign

Mere hours after Debbie Wasserman Schultz resigned as chair of the DNC, Hillary Clinton has already given her a high ranking position in her campaign. after Wikileaks released emails
that showed her team showed a clear bias for Clinton over Bernie Sanders during the Democratic primaries, with DNC CFO Brad Marshall going so far as to suggest attacking his faith in Bible belt states Kentucky and West Virginia.

In an official statement, Clinton praised Wasserman Schultz without mentioning the email scandal, commending her “hard work and leadership.” Wasserman Schultz’s new job will be to act as honorary chairman of the Clinton campaign’s “50-state” program:
“There’s simply no one better at taking the fight to the Republicans than Debbie–which is why I am glad that she has agreed to serve as honorary chair of my campaign’s 50-state program to gain ground and elect Democrats in every part of the country, and will continue to serve as a surrogate for my campaign nationally, in Florida, and in other key states.”

DNC emails: Wasserman Schultz furiously pressured MSNBC after it criticized her “unfair” treatment of Sanders

DNC emails: Wasserman Schultz furiously pressured MSNBC after it criticized her "unfair" treatment of SandersDebbie Wasserman Schultz, the chair of the Democratic National Committee, was furious when she was criticized by MSNBC host Mika Brzezinski.

Wasserman Schultz called for Brzezinski to “apologize” and told her co-worker Chuck Todd “this must stop.” The DNC chair even complained to MSNBC’s president.

In May, Brzezinski held a segment on the program “Morning Joe” in which she condemned Wasserman Schultz’s “unfair” treatment of Bernie Sanders in the Democratic primary.

“This has been very poorly handled from the start. It has been unfair, and they haven’t taken him seriously, and it starts, quite frankly, with the person that we just heard speaking,” Brzezinski said, referring to Wasserman Schultz.

“She should step down,” Brzezinski added.

Julian Castro Found To Have Violated Hatch Act In Katie Couric Interview

CLEVELAND - A report prepared by the U.S. Office of Special Counsel (OSC) has found that Housing and Urban Development Secretary Julian Castro violated the Hatch Act, which prohibits federal employees from engaging in political activity while acting in their official capacity, a source with knowledge of the report told BuzzFeed News.
Castro, the OSC found, violated the Hatch Act during an April interview with Yahoo’s Katie Couric.
In that interview, Castro discussed a new HUD policy to expand internet access to children and the difficulty of attaining housing loans. Couric then moved to the topic of Hillary Clinton’s campaign.
“Taking off my HUD hat for a second and speaking individually,” Castro began, calling Clinton the most experienced presidential candidate. He criticized Republicans for seeking to “pick and choose who gets opportunity,” saying that Muslims, immigrants, and gays are on the outside looking in with regards to Republican policy.
