Senate GOP Launches Inquiry Into Facebook’s News Curation

The US Senate Commerce Committee—which has jurisdiction over media issues, consumer protection issues, and internet communication—has sent a letter to Mark Zuckerberg requesting answers to questions it has on its trending topics section. The letter comes after Gizmodo on Monday reported on allegations by one former news curator, who worked for Facebook as a contractor, that the curation team routinely suppressed or blacklisted topics of interest to conservatives. That report also included allegations from several former curators that they used a “injection tool” to add or bump stories onto the trending module.

Cliven Bundy suing Obama, Nevada officials

Cliven Bundy, the Nevada rancher who led an armed standoff over grazing fees on federal lands, is suing President Obama and Nevada officials in hopes of getting charges against him dismissed.

Bundy’s lawyer will file the complaint Tuesday against Obama; Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid(D-Nev.); his son, former Clark County Commission Chairman Rory Reid and U.S. District Court Judge Gloria Navarro.

Bundy supporters seethe over arrest of militant with illegal machine gun: They’re playing with a ‘time bomb’

Authorities have arrested yet another member of the armed militant group that occupied the Malheur National Wildlife Refuge in Oregon early this year, the Oregonian reports.

Michael Emry, who describes himself as a reporter who “embedded” himself with the Bundy-led militia during the 41-day stand-off, was arrested Friday on federal weapons charges.

At Maine convention, Democrats to vote on eliminating superdelegates

Maine Democrats will vote on a rule change at this weekend’s state convention that could reshape future presidential contests.

The proposed change could also prompt a floor fight between supporters of presidential hopefuls Bernie Sanders and Hillary Clinton.

Portland state Rep. Diane Russell, who is introducing the rule, is hopeful that the fight won’t happen, but that so-called superdelegates will be eliminated in 2020.
