Lawyers: ICE detainee with brain tumor removed from hospital

An undocumented immigrant diagnosed with a brain tumor while in Immigrations and Customs Enforcement (ICE) custody was returned to a detention center from a Texas hospital, her lawyers said.

The woman, a Salvadoran national identified only as Sara, was released from Huguley Hospital in Fort Worth, Texas, and taken to Prairieland Detention Center against her will, according to her lawyers.

"She told us they tied her hands and ankles in her condition," Melissa Zuniga, a member of Sara's legal team, told The Hill. "She's complaining of a lot of pain."

DeVos: Critics want to ‘make my life a living hell’

In her first full week as U.S. education secretary, Betsy DeVos wasted no time in getting to work to try to explain her vision for education and the U.S. Education Department — and to go after her critics, saying they want to make her life “a living hell.” She also said she has identified people in the department who want her to fail, but vowed not to let them.
Her nomination by President Trump sparked an unprecedented backlash, and she was confirmed on Feb. 7 in the Senate only after Vice President Pence cast the first-ever vote to break a tie for a Cabinet nominee. Her backers see her as a champion of school choice and alternatives to traditional public schools, while opponents say her decades of advocacy work show that she wants to privatize the public education system.

Congresswoman Waters And Senator McCain Prank Called By Russian Comedians Pretending To Be Ukrainian Prime Minister

There’s no way these prank calls could be real right? Right? RIGHT!?!? I mean Rep. Maxine Waters, a California Democrat, and Sen. John McCain, a Republican from Arizona, two distinguished politicians who have 62 years of being federal statespersons between them. Plus McCain and Waters have been adamant about the allegations of Russians interfering with the election of President Donald J. Trump, so I’m sure that they would be super weary of being hacked by Russians themselves. However, if these videos are authentic then it appears that these two powerful politicians are the Americans who were hacked by the Russians.
Two Russian comedians, Vladimir Krasnov and Aleksey Stolyarov, somehow managed to infiltrate the camps of the U.S. politicians. The pranksters pretended to be Ukranian Prime Minster Volodymyr Groysman, successfully discussed Hillary Clinton’s health, Vladimir Putin, Russian sanctions, and a fictitious country.
The comedians have had success in prank calling luminaries in the past. In 2015, the duo prank called Elton John and pretended to be Vladimir Putin. The jokesters told Waters that there were Putin aides who were hackers only known on the internet as “Vovan” and “Lexus,” which is actually the online names of Krasnov and Aleksey Stolyarov. That moment when you’re so worried about Russian hacking that you, yourself, get hacked by Russians.

Democrats Want An Investigation Into Donald Trump’s Whistleblower Threats

WASHINGTON ― With President Donald Trump and congressional Republicans threatening to go after the people who leaked classified material about Trump’s ties to Russia, Democrats are asking the Justice Department to investigate the potential intimidation of whistleblowers ― and they want Attorney General Jeff Sessions to recuse himself.

In a particularly stern letter, Democrats on the House Judiciary Committee asked DOJ Inspector General Michael Horowitz to look into whether the Trump administration has engaged in any “improper effort to intimidate or threaten whistleblowers.” Democrats also asked the inspector general to determine whether Sessions should sit out that sort of investigation, considering his personal ties to former National Security Adviser Michael Flynn, who was also involved with the Trump campaign.

Dan Rather says Flynn’s resignation could lead to scandal worse than Watergate

Dan Rather says Flynn's resignation could lead to scandal worse than Watergate

Former CBS News anchorman Dan Rather has some ominous predictions about the larger implications of the resignation of former national security adviser Michael Flynn.
“Watergate is the biggest political scandal of my lifetime, until maybe now,” Rather wrote in a Facebook post on Tuesday, that continued with the following:
It was the closest we came to a debilitating Constitutional crisis, until maybe now. On a 10 scale of armageddon for our form of government, I would put Watergate at a 9. This Russia scandal is currently somewhere around a 5 or 6, in my opinion, but it is cascading in intensity seemingly by the hour. And we may look back and see, in the end, that it is at least as big as Watergate. It may become the measure by which all future scandals are judged. It has all the necessary ingredients, and that is chilling.

U.S. Cash Flowed to Clinton Foundation Amid Russian Uranium Deal

The headline on the website Pravda trumpeted President Vladimir V. Putin’s latest coup, its nationalistic fervor recalling an era when its precursor served as the official mouthpiece of the Kremlin: “Russian Nuclear Energy Conquers the World.”
The article, in January 2013, detailed how the Russian atomic energy agency, Rosatom, had taken over a Canadian company with uranium-mining stakes stretching from Central Asia to the American West. The deal made Rosatom one of the world’s largest uranium producers and brought Mr. Putin closer to his goal of controlling much of the global uranium supply chain.
But the untold story behind that story is one that involves not just the Russian president, but also a former American president and a woman who would like to be the next one.
At the heart of the tale are several men, leaders of the Canadian mining industry, who have been major donors to the charitable endeavors of former President Bill Clinton and his family. Members of that group built, financed and eventually sold off to the Russians a company that would become known as Uranium One.

GOP chairman: Oversight won't investigate Flynn

House Oversight Committee Chairman Jason Chaffetz (R-Utah) said Tuesday that his panel won't investigate the circumstances that led to Michael Flynn stepping down Monday as President Trump's national security adviser.

Instead, Chaffetz deferred to the House Intelligence Committee, which is already investigating Russia's attempt to influence the presidential elections, a scope that includes campaign communications with the Russian government.

"I think that situation has taken care of itself. I know that the Intel committee is looking into the hacking issue," Chaffetz told reporters.

"I think he did the right thing stepping down."

Chaffetz Said He Believes Town Hall Protestors Were Paid, Not From Utah

Rep. Jason Chaffetz (R-UT) said that the thousands of protestors who swarmed his town hall on Thursday night were not actually from his state and were "paid" to protest, the Deseret News reported Friday.

Chaffetz told the paper that he was sure that the protestors, who chanted "shame!" and grilled him on investigating President Donald Trump, were Democrats and that they were trying to cause "chaos" because they don't like Trump and are upset about the results of the 2016 election.
"You could see it online a couple days before, a concerted effort in part to just cause chaos," he said, according to the Deseret News. "Democrats are in disbelief that they have nothing but flailing and screaming to deal with this."

Just in case Mr. Chaffetz wishes to vet the voting ID of those who were in attendance of his town hall, here is a link to the videos so he can go and inquire with the district leadership about letting these people in.  https://www.yahoo.com/news/do-your-job-rowdy-republican-town-halls-a-sign-of-things-to-come-205206305.html?soc_src=hl-viewer&soc_trk=fb

Newspaper uses photo of Alec Baldwin on 'SNL' instead of Trump

Dominican newspaper El Nacional on Friday printed a photo of Alec Baldwin doing his impression of President Trump on "Saturday Night Live" in an article about Trump and Israel.
The photo was used side-by-side with a photo of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
It was not immediately clear whether the image of Baldwin was accidental or an intentional joke.

The U.S. military's stats on deadly airstrikes are wrong. Thousands have gone unreported

The American military has failed to publicly disclose potentially thousands of lethal airstrikes conducted over several years in Iraq, Syria and Afghanistan, a Military Times investigation has revealed. The enormous data gap raises serious doubts about transparency in reported progress against the Islamic State, al-Qaida and the Taliban, and calls into question the accuracy of other Defense Department disclosures documenting everything from costs to casualty counts.

In 2016 alone, U.S. combat aircraft conducted at least 456 airstrikes in Afghanistan that were not recorded as part of an open-source database maintained by the U.S. Air Force, information relied on by Congress, American allies, military analysts, academic researchers, the media and independent watchdog groups to assess each war's expense, manpower requirements and human toll. Those airstrikes were carried out by attack helicopters and armed drones operated by the U.S. Army, metrics quietly excluded from otherwise comprehensive monthly summaries, published online for years, detailing American military activity in all three theaters.

Founders of Panama Papers Law Firm Arrested on Money Laundering Charges

articles/00Response/170210-mossfon-01.jpg

Police in Panama arrested the founders of Mossack Fonseca, the law firm at the center of the Panama Papers scandal, on money laundering charges after authorities raided the firm’s headquarters as part of investigations into Brazil’s largest-ever bribery scandal.
The firm’s founding partners, Ramón Fonseca and Jürgen Mossack, were taken into police custody on Thursday, according to the men’s lawyer. Kenia Porcell, Panama’s attorney general, released a statement that said evidence gathered by her office indicated that the law firm was a potential “criminal organization” that concealed and removed evidence related to “illegal activity.”
Both Fonseca and Mossack are well-known in business and political circles in Panama. Fonseca is a former adviser to Panama’s president, Juan Varela, and Mossack served on Panama’s council on foreign relations from 2009 to 2014.

They have consistently denied any wrongdoing. Their law firm says that it is not at fault in cases in which offshore companies it set up for clients were later used for illegitimate purposes. The firm told ICIJ last year that it follows “both the letter and spirit of the law.”
